Celebrating Indigenous Peoples Day with Money Matters for Indigenous Peoples





(Toronto, ON – June 21, 2018)  As the sun rises on the longest day of the year ABC Life Literacy Canada (ABC) joins Canadians across the country in celebrating the heritage, diverse cultures and the many contributions of our country’s Indigenous Peoples.

In 2016 ABC adapted our popular financial literacy program to create Money Matters for Indigenous Peoples. Better reflecting the needs of Indigenous learners; workshops impart practical information on spending, borrowing and saving that can be immediately implemented into everyday life.

Canadian Families Learn Together for the Largest Family Literacy Celebration in Canada on Family Literacy Day





(Toronto, ON - January 25, 2018) On Saturday, January 27, ABC Life Literacy Canada (ABC) will celebrate the 19th anniversary of Family Literacy Day® (FLD) with community organizations, schools, libraries, learning centres and families across the country. Family Literacy Day raises awareness of the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family.

Money Matters empowers newcomers and new Canadians to start the New Year in control of their finances





(Toronto, ON – January 9, 2018) ABC Life Literacy Canada (ABC) is ringing in the New Year with Money Matters for Newcomers and New Canadians, a financial literacy program for Canada’s newcomer community. The program, which is taught at community learning centres across the country, helps learners to navigate the Canadian banking system, learn how to save and build credit. The program also enables learners to set financial goals and develop the skills and confidence to reach them.

Money Matters celebrates milestone of 10,000 learners reached through community-based workshops





(Toronto, ON – October 25, 2017) – ABC Life Literacy Canada (ABC) is celebrating Financial Literacy Month with Money Matters workshops across Canada.  Community organizations will be hosting workshops throughout November to bring financial literacy programming to their learners. With this year’s workshops, Money Matters has reached a milestone of 10,000 adult learners since its inception in 2011.

(Toronto, ON – September 22, 2017) Today is Essential Skills Day in Canada, which raises awareness about the importance of workplace training and the essential skills that lay the foundation for learning all other skills. To mark the day, ABC Life Literacy Canada is proud to announce the launch of UP Skills for Work, a new program designed to help learners develop the key employability skills they need to be adaptable and motivated through all phases of their employment and as they move into new roles or careers.

UP Skills for Work Prepares Workers with the Soft Skills Employers Seek

(Toronto, ON – June 27, 2017) ABC Life Literacy Canada (ABC) is pleased to announce the UP Skills for Work program, designed to help learners develop core employability and workplace skills. Through the commitment and support from founding sponsor, Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life, ABC will create nine learning modules over the next three years for delivery in workshops in community, settlement, home, workplace and other learning communities across Canada.
