ABC Life Literacy Canada releases two new Money Matters videos





(June 26, 2019 – Toronto) – National literacy organization ABC Life Literacy Canada (ABC) has just released two new videos relating to its Money Matters program – an introductory financial literacy course targeted at adult literacy learners. The videos highlight the success of two program adaptations: Money Matters for Indigenous Peoples and Money Matters for Newcomers and New Canadians.

New family financial literacy resources encourage families to openly discuss money





(Brampton - June 3, 2019) - ABC Life Literacy Canada (ABC) is pleased to announce that its HSBC Family Literacy First program has been renewed with a new focus on family financial literacy. ABC will design three new “Numbers & Cents” family financial literacy modules, all of which will be available in English, French and Simplified Chinese.

Health Literacy Still an Issue in Canada





  • 60 per cent of Canadian adults and 88 per cent of seniors are not health literate
  • ABC Life Literacy launches nine new resources as part of its ABC Health Matters program
  • Low literacy is associated with poor health outcomes


(Toronto, ON – September 27, 2018)  October is Health Literacy Month, a time to increase understanding of health information and for Canadians to take charge of their health. According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, 60 per cent of Canadian adults and 88 per cent of seniors are not health literate.

ABC Life Literacy Canada Connects Learners to Learning Centres in Celebration of International Literacy Day





(Toronto, ON – August 30, 2018)  UNESCO has proclaimed that September 8, 2018 is International Literacy Day (ILD). This year’s theme is Literacy and Skills Development. Skills, in this context refers to the knowledge and competencies required for employment, careers, and livelihoods; particularly technical and vocational skills, along with transferable skills and digital skills.
