“What a extraordinary evening,” remarked Gillian Mason, President of ABC Life Literacy Canada (ABC) reflecting on Life Literacy Night 2015. “Our guests included some of the most innovative literacy practitioners from across the country together with people who ‘get it’—supporters of literacy, corporate partners, a provincial government Minister, the Canada Employment Insurance Commissioner representing employers, union representatives, volunteers and others. At time when the need to invest in Canadian’s literacy proficiency has never been greater this augurs well for the meeting the considerable challenge ahead.”
Eighty guests met on September 17 at the stunning Thompson Landry Gallery in Toronto’s Distillery District to celebrate excellence in community and workplace literacy. Camesha Cox, Founding Director of The Reading Partnership and long-time friend to ABC, hosted the event which served to raise awareness about the great need for improved literacy and essential skills in Canada and to bestow several awards on organizations and individuals who are making a difference in creating positive change in the lives of Canadians.
